History and GeographyAbout the TownCoolah is situated in central NSW, about 110km north of Mudgee and 115km east of Dubbo. Coolah is in the lovely Coolah Valley and is surrounded by the Warrumbungle and Liverpool Ranges, along with the Great Dividing Range. Nearby you will find the beautiful Coolah Tops National Park. The Coolah Valley HotelThe Coolah Valley Hotel was opened on 9 November 1929. At the time of opening there were two hotels in Coolah. The "top" hotel at the top end of town and the "bottom" hotel at the lower end of the town. Both of these hotels are still there today and the Coolah Valley Hotel is the "top" hotel. Bruce the SteerBruce is the steer that watches over the bar at the Coolah Valley Hotel. He was acquired from a local man, who hunted Bruce in the Coolah area around five years ago. Bruce was about 12-14 years old when he was hunted and he has 13 points on his antlers, which is very unusual as steers normally have an even number of antlers. Bruce is the inspiration for the logo of the Coolah Valley Hotel. |
